Book of short stories

The other thing I've kinda focused on here in England has been to pick up the thread I started many years ago - to write a book of short stories. I started writing short stories in a university creative writing course and had lots of fun doing it. Always had the idea in mind to complete a book, but somewhere along the way got sidetracked. Anyhow, some ideas seem to want to be songs, others screenplays, while others seems like short stories. I've just completed a couple of stories - one based in a prison, another inspired by a recent trip to Wales, so I'm hoping to continue writing stories and in the not-too-distant future, complete the book I started years ago!

New songs - new album

After spending the last year more or less consumed with moving continents and getting settled I'm just starting to write some new songs once again. As Tom Waits once said when asked why he keeps writing new material, "it's when you start to get tired of the old songs, I guess". I guess I'm in that place now. I'm currently writing songs based on my great friend and poet, Blake Parker's song poems. When Blake was alive he and I wrote many things together: a couple of screenplay projects, three poetry/music albums (The Terminal City Trilogy), and a double CD project that is still unreleased - "The Princess and the Kid". The new songs are maybe a little more bluesy and country sounding and, as usual, there will be lots of variety. It's kinda relaxing, after my last two epic albums, to be using someones else's words and ideas to work from. Hopefully the results will be worth it. No plans for recording yet, just keeping in the writing mode for now . . .

Well I've been living in the UK for about 6 months now and really enjoying the experience so far. Managed to play my first solo UK gig on March 3rd - a resounding succcess and much fun. Lots more solo gigs already booked for the months ahead on the Isle of Wight. In the meantime I'm starting to put together a live band and am hoping to be playing my "Circo" show in the coming months. Really excited to be playing with others again and to have the opportunity to bring my full-on theatrical show to European audiences . . .!

Album here - New Live Show

Well the new album has arrived! It's always great to see the actual finished product after all the hard work and creativity is over. Looks great. Thanks again to the wonderful artwork of Eric Vondy the CD packaging really reflects the music. We start rehearsals next week for some big shows in April. Always a treat to bring it to the next level - to see how the music will evolve with a band. The hardest part has been choosing which songs to play and which to leave out. I good problem I guess!?

Well I finished up the recording and mixing of the new album in early December - things always take a little longer than you expect. In the meantime I found some stunning artwork that I thought would be great for the graphics and so I approached the artist - Eric Vondy - and he agreed to let me use his art. I think the finished product will be beautiful. A real pairing and collaboration between Eric's images and the music that you will hear. I'm very excited. I put together the graphics myself this time around. As soon as the album is released we will begin gearing up for some live shows in April. Gonna be another eventful year . . .

Recording has begun

I have just started recording my next album - with about 6 songs already underway. Most of the album work will be done in Oct/Nov 2010. Pretty excited to be working on these new songs - some will follow on from "Circo" and some will branch off in new directions. I had a chance, a week ago, to perform 5 new songs at Blake Parker's memorial road show and am happy to say they all seemed to go over really well. I've been thinking about posting a new song on this website - but any singular song might give the very wrong impression of what the album will be like, so we may have to wait until the entire thing is completed to reveal . . .!?
